This album is so incredibly different from the Nine Inch Nails I'm used to. It's not bad though. I seperate NIN into three categories of music style by their albums: Pretty Hate Machine-like, The Downward Spiral-like, With Teeth-like.

Terrible Lie
This track is very catchy and very 80's. This track definately has a heavy industrial feel. I can't get this one out of my head.

Down In It
This song starts out with Red Hot Chili Peppers'-style patter. The synth and percusions are very 80's. I really like the muted vocals, especially towards the end.

Sanctified
Sanctified starts out with some sweet bass (reminds me of RHCP again) and the more traditional NIN vocals. When the guitar is introduced it starts to feel a little more 80's but not quite as much as the previous tracks.

Something I Can Never Have
The piano throughout this song give it a very different feel from most Nine Inch Nails songs. The vocals are quiet and very traditional NIN. The occasional percussions add a slight 80's tone.

Kinda I Want To
This song is filled with heavy 80's moog... so much you may feel a desire to bob your head to the beat, but please control yourself. (head-bobbing is not head-banging)

Sin
I like the synthesizer backbeat. The vocals have a heavy 80's feel, but the industrial side of NIN is apparent in this track through the percussions.

That's What I Get
Some cheesiness in the lyrics. That's what you get.

The Only Time
More 80's! This song is reminescent of Red Hot Chili Peppers heavily. As an added bonus the lyrics are not only dirty but cheesy! Remember to control your head bobbing desires during the heavy keyboard sections. The slow bass line is sure to get stuck in your head. 80's style drumming followed by industrial percussions gives this track a strange sound. I can't not love this track.

Ringfinger
Yay for more synth and drums. There are references to Jesus and religion throughout. The surreal way "ringfinger" is sung in by backing vocals just adds to the 80's feel. Some With Teeth-style loudness in vocals is present in parts of this track.

writers and readers join the last.fm group:
Link:

Trey's favorite trippy music

Sometimes it feels really nice to forget the world and just space out to music. Trippy is the word I use to describe music that is good to space out to. I've found that the best trippy music tends to be psychedelic or electronic. Although techno-electronica works, it takes the right type of electronica to really get into the music. The same applies to psychedelic music. Static and harsh noise usually help add to the experience but only if combined with sound that is already trippy without harsh distortion. Too much distortion also tends to ruin the experience.

The Flaming Lips - Zaireeka
The trippiest album I've ever listened to is Zaireeka by The Flaming Lips. This album requires four cds to be played simultaneously. Each cd has it's own unique set of stereo channels. I just listened to the album for the third time today and the experience was better than the last two times. The first time I heard this album I was extremely annoyed by the high-pitched squeeling of static noise during track 6 (How Will We Know). The noise comes from 3 of the 4 cds. When I listened to the album today I really enjoyed this noise. I had the speakers on the floor and I actually lowered my head to the speaker level so I could hear all 4 devices blend clearly. The noise they create when they blend during this track is incredible. The scariest part on this album the last times I listened to it was when all four cds spew out sounds of dogs barking loudly during track 8 (The Big Ol' Bug is the New Baby Now). This time the scariest part seemed to be the buzzing of bees in track 4 (The Machine in India). I had closed my eyes during this part and for some reason I pictured myself on a magic carpet flying through a swarm of bees. Did I mention I need sleep? Track 7 (March of the Rotten Vegetables) has a very trippy drum beat that emits from cd 1 mostly and ends in hissing. Overall, this album is a very interesting experience. I think my favorite song is track 4 (The Machine in India).

John Coltrane - Sun Ship
John Coltrane's Sun Ship album is only 30 minutes long but it is definately worth the 30 minutes. Sun Ship is a purely instrumental free jazz album produced in 1965. The chaotic mix of sound on this album is overwhelming to listen to at times. The music transitions from quiet melodic music to loud harsh music frequently. The first track (Sun Ship) is hyper. The second track seems to be more sad and possibly of a lower pitch than the other tracks. The third track starts off normal and diminishes into chaos. The fourth track (Attaining) is more melodic. The fifth track (Ascent) has more of a traditional jazz beat and is a bit quieter overall.

AFX - Analogue Bubblebath 4
I found this album thanks to a recommendation from Panther. From the little I know of electronic genres I would classify Analogue Bubblebath 4 as ambient. Although all tracks on this album are untitled, there are unofficial names that have been dubbed to each track. The first track (Elephant Song) is my favorite song because it's very easy to trip out to. I think the last track (Knievel) should be listened to as the first track because it sounds like an introduction. Knievel is just 27 seconds of distorted talking that really doesn't belong on the concluding track of an album.

Maurice Ravel - Bolero
Bolero is a fifteen minute long orchestral piece composed by Maurice Ravel during the early twentieth century. The whole piece consists of the same melody repeated over and over in different ways by different instruments and different combinations of instruments. While listening to Bolero it is very easy to space out. The last section of the piece gradually becomes louder as more instruments are introduced. The piece ends in near chaos as every instrument plays simultaneously. Although Bolero is a very simple piece, when played by an orchestra as a whole it sounds very impressive.

The Doors - Celebration of the Lizard
Jim Morrison is known for being constantly high. This song is probably the most "high" of all of The Doors' songs. It's almost 20 minutes long and consists of melodic speaking, singing, and screaming accompanied by chaotic instrumentals. I usually end up listening to this song in Denny's at 3am.

After seeing these ridiculous top 10 lists i decided to make one, no order

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; But I'm not going to put in pictures casue i just dont want to take the time.
Okay.

1) As Cities Burn
Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest

This is the debut cd from a band that nobody has really heard of. The cd contains only around thirty minutes of music, but every second of it is worth it. Layered with religious influences, the lyrics are able to lift you up or push you down. The band gets across their message, whether or not it's religious. The cd starts off by jumping right in with an in-your-face kind of song. It slows down for only one track until the final, epic ending.

2) Bright Eyes
Motion Sickness

Motion Sickness is a live recording, and yet I still believe it places above Digital Ash.. because of the pure emotion that you can only hear live. The song choices may not be the best but there are songs such as Southern State and Make War where Connor's shaky voice never lets you doubt the ultimate truth of his words.

3) Bright Eyes
Digital Ash in a Digital Urn

This was one of two simultanious releases. The only problem I can see in this album is that everything sounds too much of the same, with the exception of a few tracks. I feel like the lyrics do not quite have the depth that the ones before do. Yet, songs such as Gold Mine Gutted really show Oberst's ability to songwrite.

4) Trivium
Ascendancy

Wow. This cd really blew me away. This guy has one of the best screams ive heard. Not only that, he has a very good voice. Many times, even when you least expect it, screams will be overlayed with clean vocals. There is plenty of raw emotion in this album for anyone to hear, regardless of if you are into metal records or not.

5) As I Lay Dying
Shadows are Security

As I Lay Dying has been one of my favorite bands for three years. This album does now show the brilliance that is Frail Words Collapse, but it is still a good album, especially if you're trying to get into metal. Their songs are easy to listen to and get into. I only wish they had written more lyrics and had less repetition.

6) Death Cab for Cutie
Plans

This is where I disagree with Trey. I think Transatlanticism is a much better record. It has better lyrics, it is better musically, and it has better messages. Nevertheless, Plans is a brilliant album. There are songs in the middle that seems like filler, but songs such as Marching Bands of Manhattan, I Will Follow You Into the Dark, and What Sarah Said really grasp a listener's attention.

7) Children of Bodom
Are You Dead Yet?

Once again, this is not as good as their previous efforts. They have developed more of a nu-metal edge. However, this is still Bodom. The amazing solos are still there. The harsh lyrics and vocals are still there. It makes for a kickass live show.

8) Panic! At The Disco
A Fever You Can't Sweat Out

This is just plain catchy. It isn't the sort of music I would find myself listening to, but for some reason i can't seem to put it down. These guys also put on a great live show, although it would be better if they had more material. This album never fails to seem original and the lyrics never cease to amuse me.

9) From Autumn to Ashes
Abandon Your Friends

I believe this album is completely carried by three tracks: Kansas City 90210, Placentapede, and Abaondon Your Friends. In my opinion, these three songs are good enough to put this at the ninth best album of the year. Kansas City 90210 is a slower song with catchy lyrics. Placentapede will send a chill down your spine with the combination of clean vocals and screams. Abandon Your Friends is a slow, acoustic song that anyone would love to sing along with. Demanding. Detriment.

10) Nine Inch Nails
With Teeth

Don't get me wrong, this cd is good. It still makes it in the top ten. The problem I have with Nine Inch Nails is that their studio recordings are really not who they are. Their live show is so much better, and all of the electronic sounds are replaced with keyboards and guitars. The live energy could never be matched in a studio setting. Also, the song Only is horrible. If you want to hear something close to what their potential is, get And All That Could Have Been, a live recording.

This concludes my top ten albums of 2005. If you disagree, I don't care.
It's an opinion.

-mike

walker

And so the Green monkey walked loudly and opposedly, striking craters in the ground.
He walked heavily, afraid, his brow furrowed into a frown.
He feared the unfamiliar land,
and the purple grass worked with the straight red trees to bring a tremor to his hand.

The kitty looked to him in smiles, walking softly and thinking absurd thoughts.

The kitten led the monkey across twisting landscapes, inverted hills, upside-down canyons, lakes filled with clouds, and seas filled with shadows.
They came to the Spider, whose webs spanned meadows
worlds
and dimensions.
The spider managed a straight face, and smiled upon his audience.
"Come, lie upon my webs, from whence you came
And the monkey rolled in them, at home, and the alien world was no longer strange, the shadows of the seas were the lights of the night sky, the lakes were the skies of day, the canyons were mountains, and the hills were but crevices left by his own confused feet."
He did not notice the tangling of his fur, or his inability to move.
"The kitten's insecurities departed, and saw itself as a Cat, graceful and majestic, and comforted in the ever-wide embrace of its father."

The spider laughed to itself as it devoured its prey.
The prey, the children of its brother, had not realised that they were not spawned from the web. I don't like AIM. Being signed onto aim, I was immediately subject to the text-screams of whoeverthefuck, and thus came to view the requests of one T-Ray McWhitey. He's white.
I flicked my mind out of its usual multidimensional whimsical flight and into concentration behind my eyes. T-Ray asked if i'd be interested in helping with a blog. I hate blogs. I said yes. He asked me for a name. I gave him "Audiblog and His sonic monkey's ephemeral genious." I forgot the rest of the story, which is probably for the best. It's not very interesting. The point of this blog, in fact, was to finally make a post. T-ray whitey Mc Whitenstein asked me to make a post about psychedelic music or listening to music while on psychedelics. I wasn't really paying attention, 'cause I ignore white people.
Whateverthefuck: here's the post:
Wait. What the fuck? A huge majority of modern music is actually psychedelic. As in: if you look far enough into it, or listen to it while on any hallucinogen, namely psilocybin, any of the 2Cs, miprocin, moxy, DOC, or lysergic acid ditholymide, you'll realise that the people who made this music were as fucked up or more fucked up on drugs than you. T-Ray likes [with teeth], so I'll use that as an example.
I haven't listened to the album more than twice, because I'd forgotten that i had it until T-Ray reminded me of it with his ridiculous top 10 post [a serious display of mediocre taste, hombre] [holy fuck i spoke spanish] [hey typing in these brackets makes it seem as if my text is to be read in a whisper!] [snicker whisper snicker] [ the jews own the banks and the media!] , and thus i decided that it'd make a good example, as I'm mainly writing this for his sake anyways.
I don't know how to describe the psychedelic effects per se, so now i feel like an asshole using the example. [grabs ipod to figger out what the fuck i been talking about...] Holy fuck. Ear-switching echoes. Echoes in general. All the strange spaceship-door effects. Everything about this entire song. Trent's on all kinds of acid. Done. That was, surely, a logical and well-stated argument. Goddamnit i have no patience for a proper post, fuck you for making me do this.

Trey's Favorite Albums of 2005

1. Death Cab For Cutie
Plans
Released August 30
This album flows better than Transatlanticism. I would say it is a fairly quiet album overall but it's loud enough and catchy enough that it isn't boring. There isn't any one track in particular that I would take off of this album. Many of my favorite Death Cab For Cutie songs are on this album.

2. Louis XIV
The Best Little Secrests Are Kept
Released March 21
This album is reeks of sexual references. Many would say that it does not deserve to be in the top ten, but obviously I would say otherwise. The songs Louis XIV, Finding Out True Love is Blind, A Letter to Dominique, and Illegal Tender make the album what it is, but the other tracks on this album are just as essential because they really make the album flow.

3. Franz Ferdinand
You Could Have It So Much Better
Released October 3
The American audience generally hates Franz Ferdinand. I like this album better than their self titled first album. They really changed their style for this one. I got this one for Christmas.

4. Nine Inch Nails
With Teeth
Released May 3
This is currently my favorite Nine Inch Nails album because it has less raw noise and I think it flows very well as an album. Although I love the album as a whole, I'd listen to the whole album just to hear the song Only once.

5. Bright Eyes
Digital Ash in a Digital Urn
Released January 25
I don't understand why everyone loves I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning so much. Although I like I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning I like Digital Ash in a Digital Urn much better.

6. Kaiser Chiefs
Employment
Released March 7
I love the British feel of this album. Kaiser Chiefs are one of the few modern British bands that do not make an effort to hide their accent while singing. The songs I Predict a Riot, Na Na Na Na Naa, Everyday I Love You Less And Less, and Oh My God really top this album off.

7. Panic! at the Disco
A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
Released September 27
This album tends to be addicting. See my earlier review on Panic! at the Disco for more details on them.

8. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
(Self-Titled)
Released October 11
You really have to be in the right mood to enjoy this album to it's full extent. By the harsh Bob Dylan-like vocals this sounds like a live album. The first track of this album uses this vocal style best, setting a circus-like mood.

9. Sufjan Stevens
Illinois
Released July 5
This album is full of allusions and references to Chicago. The album is melodical and very pleasing to the ears. I really like the use of the banjo for the background beat in many of the quieter songs.

10. Broken Social Scene
Self-Titled
Released October 4
This album is filled with sound. It isn't a particularly loud album, in fact it is rather quiet. It's just filled with sound.

Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict a Riot

I've been addicted to the song I Predict a Riot by Kaiser Chiefs for a few days now. The song has a very modern britpop feel to it. The lyrics, with words like lairy and chip, are very British and the accent is fairly British. I love the way he says riot. The rioting feel of this song reminds me of the song Panic in Detroit by David Bowie (one of his best songs in my opinion). Other good songs on Kaiser Chief's Employment is a Las Vegas-based band that was discovered by Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy while the Panic! band members were still in High School. In my opinion, Brenden Urie (lead singer of Panic!) sounds very similar to Patrick Stump (lead singer of FOB). Their one album (released this year), A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, has a slightly mocking twisted feel to it. The favorite author of all the members of Panic! at the Disco happens to be Chuck Palahniuk, writer of Fight Club and Haunted (a very sick and twisted book).

I've listened to their album a couple times through now and I'm surprised at how good it is for a first release. As first releases go, I would rate Panic! at the Disco at the same level as Louis XIV. Their first release isn't as good as The Killers first but it sure as hell isn't bad. Maybe it's good their first album isn't as big as The Killers because now it won't be overplayed.

A-Z

Ok im bored, and i took a how heavy metal are you quiz, one of the q's was can you name a metal band for every letter, so ill make a A-Z list of the first metal bands that come to mind, comment about other styles a-z or whatever. The instrumental for the album was recorded after Morrison died. The poetry recordings were never meant to be put to music, but the resulting songs sound as if they were planned out and recorded while Jim was alive. The album consists mostly of Morrison rambling about sex, dreams, and philosophy.

The background music and the poem lyrics are full of allusions to other songs by The Doors. If you liked Celebration of the Lizard King and The End you will love this album. If you like drugged-up-sexual-trippy-semi-beatnick poetry with jazzy rock background music you'll love this album. If you are looking for a serious compilation of profound and intellectual poetry put to a rhythmic beat, this album is not for you.

I personally loved this album. I especially like the random clips of live performances and the background rhythms that resemble those of other songs. I also love the raw simplicity of Morrison's poem lyrics because this simplicity isn't seen through his song lyrics. I think this album gives the listener more of a taste of the person Jim Morrison really was.

I am metal

I recently discovered a new band while rummaging through the news at www.blabbermouth.net.
