The Doors - An American Prayer

An American Prayer is an album The Doors released after Jim Morrison died that consists mostly of Jim reading his poetry. The instrumental for the album was recorded after Morrison died. The poetry recordings were never meant to be put to music, but the resulting songs sound as if they were planned out and recorded while Jim was alive. The album consists mostly of Morrison rambling about sex, dreams, and philosophy.

The background music and the poem lyrics are full of allusions to other songs by The Doors. If you liked Celebration of the Lizard King and The End you will love this album. If you like drugged-up-sexual-trippy-semi-beatnick poetry with jazzy rock background music you'll love this album. If you are looking for a serious compilation of profound and intellectual poetry put to a rhythmic beat, this album is not for you.

I personally loved this album. I especially like the random clips of live performances and the background rhythms that resemble those of other songs. I also love the raw simplicity of Morrison's poem lyrics because this simplicity isn't seen through his song lyrics. I think this album gives the listener more of a taste of the person Jim Morrison really was.

That is kick ass. The Legacy album is of course the best compilation album ever but this one is so out there I just have to love it.
